SZCH in the 155th brigade: law enforcement officers detained a former brigade commander

The State Bureau of Investigation and the Security Service of Ukraine detained the former commander of the 155th separate mechanized brigade, Colonel Dmytro Ryumshin, and are preparing suspicions against him.

Details: According to the investigation, the commander “did not react to the violations in his unit, including the voluntary abandonment of the military unit by his soldiers.”

The SBI also says that the commander deliberately did not perform other actions assigned to him by his official duties. In particular, during 2024, he did not send a single report to the pre-trial investigation authorities regarding subordinate servicemen who committed criminal offenses.

It was established that the colonel had information about the SZCH in his brigade during the past year. The command staff of the military unit reported to him not only verbally, but also wrote reports and reports about the facts of the commission of criminal offenses by subordinate servicemen.

In particular, related to the arbitrary leaving of the military unit and the place of service, as well as the non-return of military personnel from vacations, business trips, and sick leave. However, the commander did not inform the authorities of the pre-trial investigation about the discovered facts.

Due to the actions of the commander, the law enforcement officers could not start the legal procedure to find and return servicemen to the military unit and reserve battalions, or in some cases ensure that they serve the punishment for the crimes committed.

Some subordinates periodically arbitrarily left the place of service, then voluntarily returned, after which they did it again, feeling complete impunity for such illegal actions, the SBI emphasizes.

In addition, the colonel unjustifiably included unmotivated men for military service in the lists of persons who were scheduled to undergo training on the territory of France. Among them were persons against whom reservations and prohibitions were contained in instructions and orders of the top management.

In particular, 22 servicemen who were called up for mobilization from border regions, but their place of registration is in other regions, as well as 15 servicemen who were brought to administrative responsibility in 2024 on the eve of their mobilization for military service for attempting to illegally cross the state border outside points passage across the state border. As a result, 56 servicemen of the brigade voluntarily left the training grounds in France.

It is reported that the law enforcement officers have detained the former brigadier general of the 155th OMBr and will bring him to Kyiv to notify him of the suspicion that a military official did not send a report about a subordinate who committed a criminal offense to the pre-trial investigation body, as well as in other willful non-fulfillment by a military official of actions that she with her official duties, she had to fulfill what was committed in the conditions of martial law and caused significant damage.

It is also planned to file a petition with the court to choose a preventive measure in the form of detention for the suspect.

• Journalist Yuriy Butusov reported on the facts of improper formation and provision of the newly created 155th mechanized brigade, and the SBI announced an investigation into the facts of desertion and abuse of authority.
• Later it became known that President Volodymyr Zelenskyi took the situation regarding the 155th OMBr “Anna Kyivska” under personal control during the Staff of the Supreme Commander.
• The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi said that he paid attention to building the capabilities of the unmanned systems unit of the 155th mechanized brigade, as well as “problematic issues that need to be resolved.”
• Representatives of the French army confirmed the facts of desertion among Ukrainian military personnel who were undergoing training.
• The General Staff announced on January 7 that the 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade “Anna Kyivska” is carrying out combat missions near Pokrovsk in full force, it has been reinforced with drones and provided with additional equipment.
