“On December 16, the media published a material highlighting the facts of possible abuses by officials of the 211th pontoon-bridge brigade of the Support Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” the department says.
The General Staff says that by the decision of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrsky, a commission of the Military Law and Order Service of the Armed Forces was sent to the military unit to verify the specified information.
“During the inspection, the commander of the military unit was suspended from his official duties. The progress and results of the inspection will be informed additionally in accordance with the procedure established by the legislation of Ukraine,” the press service emphasized.
At the same time, the General Staff recalled that “an official inspection was already carried out in September of this year based on the specified facts. According to its results, materials were collected and transferred to the competent authorities, where appropriate criminal proceedings were initiated.”
For his part, the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, sent letters to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Military Law and Order Service of the Armed Forces to verify information about alleged abuse of servicemen.
According to him, “today I saw a publication in the media about alleged abuse of servicemen in one of the military units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Therefore, I immediately sent letters to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Military Law and Order Service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine to verify the information and conduct an official investigation with the aim of further response.”
“Such a shameful phenomenon should not happen! Therefore, I am taking the situation under personal control and will report on the results of the verification of this fact,” emphasized the ombudsman.
Earlier, the mass media published information about alleged “bullying of military personnel, extortion of money and nepotism” in the 211th pontoon-bridge brigade of the Support Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
