From now on, real estate in Latvia will not be able to buy (gift or inheritance, exchange, etc.) citizens of Russia and Belarus, as well as companies that belong to them at least a quarter – or whose beneficiaries are Russians and Belarusians.
The law was proposed by deputies to limit the impact of hybrid threats, including indirect acquisition of real estate.

The ban on the purchase of real estate will be extended to all agreements concluded by the specified categories of Latvia residents after the law has come into force.
The new rules will extend to all types of alienation and acquisition of ownership, including the contracts of sale, lease or hiring with the right of redemption, gift, exchange, deduction agreements, auctions, inheritance agreements and any other types of agreements through which citizens of Russia and Belarus can potentially acquire property.
Some exceptions to the new law are: for example, if the property is inherited by relatives or recognized as property by court decision.
