Russia lost up to a battalion of North Korean soldiers in two days in Kurshchyna – Zelenskyi

Russia has lost up to a battalion of North Korean soldiers, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi said in a new address on January 4.

Zelenskyi noted that he listened to the report of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrsky on the situation in the Kursk region.

“Especially in the battles today (January 4 – ed.) and yesterday, in the area of ​​one village of Makhnovka, the Russian army lost up to an infantry battalion of North Korean soldiers and Russian paratroopers. And this is noticeable,” the president emphasized.

He also praised the Ukrainian military, “who are destroying the occupiers.”

“In general, I want to recognize the professional and effective actions of our soldiers of the Special Operations Forces and the 80th Separate Airborne Assault Brigade,” the head of Ukraine emphasized.

As the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrsky stated on January 1, the total losses of the Russian army in Kurshchyna totaled more than 38,000 personnel and more than a thousand pieces of equipment.

The commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces added that during the operation in the Kursk region of Russia, the exchange fund was replenished by more than 700 Russian servicemen.

Russia and Ukraine give almost no information about their losses in the war. Moscow officially last named the number of people killed in September 2022 – then 5,937 people died.

The head of the Pentagon said on December 7 that Russia lost at least 700,000 soldiers during the large-scale war against Ukraine and spent more than 200 billion dollars on it.
