Deputy Permanent Representative of the United States to the United Nations Dorothy Camilla Shi warned that the participation of North Korean troops in the war against Ukraine allows the DPRK to gain important combat experience, which increases its readiness for military actions against neighboring countries.

Details: According to Shi, more than 12,000 North Korean soldiers are currently in Russia, where they are actively involved in hostilities in the Kursk region. This fact confirms the close cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang, the American diplomat noted.

“North Korea benefits greatly from the supply of Russian military equipment, technology and combat experience, which makes it more capable of waging war against its neighbors,” Shi said.

In her view, North Korea could also use these improvements to increase arms sales and military training contracts around the world.

In response, Russia’s permanent representative to the UN, Vasyl Nebenzia, rejected the US accusations of transferring satellite and space technologies to Pyongyang, calling them “absolutely baseless”. During the meeting, he also congratulated North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on his birthday.

South Korea’s ambassador to the UN, Hwang Junkuk, said that North Korean soldiers “are essentially Kim Jong-un’s slaves, who have been brainwashed to sacrifice their lives on distant battlefields to earn money for his regime and obtain advanced military technology from Russia.”
