NATO members agreed the structure of expenditures of 5% of GDP for defense

Member States of the North Atlantic Alliance agreed that the obligation to spend 5% of GDP on defense will consist of two categories of defense investments.

This is stated in the summit declarations, which is published by “European Truth”.

NATO member states agreed that 5% will consist of two key defense investment categories:

• at least 3.5% of GDP annually to finance the basic needs in the field of defense;
• Up to 1.5% of GDP for such projects as protection of critical infrastructure, defense of networks, ensuring civil readiness and stability, stimulating innovation and strengthening the defense industrial base.

The trajectory and balance of costs under this plan will be revised in 2029, taking into account the strategic environment and the updated goals of defense capacity.

Also, NATO member states, including the US and Hungary, agreed that assisting the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be credited as part of a defensive cost.

It was also reported that NATO summit recognized Russia as a “long -term threat” for all alliance.
