“Currently, 32% of Ukrainians are ready for territorial concessions to Russia, but the majority – 58% – continue to oppose concessions. This is evidenced by the results of a survey conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology. Sociologists note that the share of those willing to make concessions to the Russian Federation has not changed since May of this year, while the share of those who are against it has slightly increased – from 55% to 58% (from May to October). “In the period from May 2022 to May 2023, the situation was relatively stable: about 8-10% of respondents were ready for territorial concessions, and the absolute majority – 82-87% – were consistently opposed. After May 2023, there is a gradual increase in the share of those who are ready for territorial concessions. Thus, by the end of 2023, willingness to make concessions increased to 19%, in February 2024 – to 26%, in May 2024 – to 32%. Between May and the beginning of October 2024, the situation actually did not change,” KMIS notes. The Institute of Sociology also surveyed respondents regarding the dimensions that influence the willingness to make territorial concessions – internal consolidation of society and a sense of support from Western partners. According to the results of the survey, the highest willingness to make concessions is among those who do not trust the president and believe that the West wants an unfair peace from Ukraine (56% are ready to make concessions, 38% are categorically against). “If the respondent has “mixed” views (they do not trust the president, but believe in supporting the West, or vice versa), then the willingness to make concessions is already lower and more than half are categorically against concessions. At the same time, those who retain both trust in the president and the trust of the West are the least ready to make concessions. Among them, 69% are categorically against concessions (against 24% who are ready for territorial concessions),” the KMIS added. The Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) conducted its own all-Ukrainian public opinion poll between September 20 and October 3, 2024. 2004 respondents were interviewed by telephone interviews.”, — write: www.radiosvoboda.org
