According to the analysts of the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), the intensification of the offensive of the Defense Forces in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation may indicate a new stage of the operation of the Ukrainian defense forces in the Kursk region, however, the ISW is not ready to make any predictions about this.

Literally: “Ukrainian forces have recently made tactical gains amid continued intense offensive operations on the Ukrainian salient in the Kursk region on January 6. Geolocation footage released on January 5 and 6 indicates that Ukrainian forces have recently advanced in southern Berdyna, the central part of the Russky Transverse and the central part of Novosotnytskyi (all northeast of Suzhi)”.

Details: The Russian Ministry of Defense and Russian bloggers said on January 6 that Russian forces repelled a Ukrainian mechanized attack of about a platoon force near Berdin, and that Russian forces, including elements of the Roshvardiya Talib group, repelled Ukrainian attacks near Novosotnytskyi.

Literally: “Russian bloggers claimed that the clearing of the areas near Berdin and Novosotnytskyi was carried out by units of the 30th Motorized Rifle Regiment (72nd Motorized Rifle Division, 44th Army Corps, Leningrad Military District), the 2nd Special Forces Brigade (Main Directorate of the GRU ), of the 11th Airborne Brigade (Airborne), as well as special forces units “Ahmat”.

Details: One Russian blogger characterized the recent Ukrainian attacks in the Kursk region as increased intelligence during force operations, which could be a diversionary maneuver for future operations.

Literally: “The activation of Ukrainian offensive operations in the Kursk region may be the initial stage of a coordinated Ukrainian operation in the Kursk region or elsewhere in the hostilities, although ISW is not ready to make any specific prediction.”

Details: The review adds that Russian forces attempted to use Ukrainian attacks northeast of Suja to advance elsewhere on the Ukrainian salient in Kursk Oblast on January 6.

However, ISW found no confirmation of these claims.

At the same time, analysts suggest that “Ukrainian forces may continue to conduct long-range strikes on Russian rear areas in the Kursk region as part of efforts to use an integrated strike capability to support ground operations.”

However, ISW, as noted, cannot independently confirm these data.

Literally: “ISW has previously assessed that Ukrainian forces may be attempting to integrate longer-range precision strike capabilities and the operation of EW systems to support ground operations.”
