Hegset had a dozen chats in Signal where he discussed his work in the Pentagon

US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegset used Signal Annex for Pentagon’s official affairs much wider than it was known earlier.

Details: According to the interlocutors of the publication, in at least one of the cases, Hegset instructed his assistants through the Signal application to inform foreign governments about the prepared military operation.

He also discussed media outputs, foreign trips, his own schedule and other not classified but sensitive information in this non-governmental messenger.

The publication writes that Hegset created many such chats. He sent a message from an unprotected line in his Pentagon office and from a personal phone.

Some reports on behalf of the Minister were published by his military assistant, the Marine Corps Colonel Ricky Buri, who was given access to the Pentagon’s personal phone.

The interlocutors emphasize that it was Buria who posted in March information about the US future attack on Hussites in Yemen in Signal Chat, whose participants were Hegset’s wife, his brother and a private lawyer.

The sources of the newspaper say that instead of using the huge communication infrastructure of the Pentagon, Hegset chose to manage the daily work of the defense department through Signal.

He added members of his protection, employees from his personal office, the Deputy Minister and representatives on public relations.

To read messages, employees had to leave their jobs to find a place in a pentagon with a mobile pavement that is unstable in the building.

Prehistory:

• At the end of April, the media wrote that Hegset shared the details of the March attack on Yemeni Hussites in another Signal group chat, which included his wife, brother and personal lawyer. The Pentagon, however, denied such information.
• It happened against the backdrop of a series of liberation in the Pentagon through the investigation of the origins of information, which featured operational plans for hostilities on the Panama Channel, the second aircraft carrier, heading to the Red Sea, Ilon Maska’s visit and pauses in collecting intelligence in relation to Ukraine.
• On May 1, US President Donald Trump confirmed the resignation of his National Security Advisor Michael Volz, who was announced in the media before. The US President did not explain the removal of Volz from his post, but the media associated it with a scandal called “Signal-Gate”, as the former national security adviser was also involved.
• At the same time, US Vice -Cresident, Jay Di, said that the US President’s decision to nominate Volz as an ambassador to the UN, and denies that he was “punished” in this way.
• The media wrote that Trump believes that the Pentagon head should remain in office.
