General Staff of the Armed Forces: there were more than 160 battles at the front, the Pokrovsky direction remains the site of intense attacks

Since the beginning of the day, there have been 164 combat clashes at the front, the enemy is intensively attacking in the Pokrovsky direction, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to the headquarters, during the day, Russian troops carried out 39 assault and offensive actions here – the greatest activity of Russian forces is in the areas of Vozdvizhenka, Myrolyubivka, Promen, Lysivka, Zeleny, Dachensky, Novy Trud, Pischany, Pokrovsk, Novoolenyvka, Vovkovo, Shevchenko, and Novotroitsky.

On Lymanskyi and Kurakhivskyi, the forces of the Russian Federation attack with approximately the same intensity – there were 24 and 23 battles, respectively. Among other things, the enemy tried to advance in the directions of Kopanok, Cherneshchyna, Novosergiivka, Platonivka, Zeleny Gayu, Druzhelyubivka, Makiivka, Terniv, Zarichny, Torsky, and in Serebryansky Forest, Petropavlivka, Slovianka, Andriivka, and Kurakhovo.

In the Kramatorsk direction, the situation is under control, the Defense Forces firmly hold the occupied lines – during the day there were four Russian attacks in the areas of the settlements of Chasiv Yar, Stupochki, Bila Gora and Oleksandro-Shultine, the headquarters declare.

Also, Russian troops continue to attack in the Kharkiv, Kupyan, Siver, Toretsk, Vremiv, Orikhov, and Dnieper directions.

In recent months, the reports of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine constantly mention the Pokrovsky and Kurakhiv directions as the places of the most active attacks by Russian forces. These destinations are located in the west of Donetsk region near its border with Dnipropetrovsk region.

According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), their priority remains unclear from the actions of the Russian military on the front line, as Russian President Vladimir Putin could have tasked the Russian army with securing territorial assets, rather than capturing large population centers.

ISW analysts, based on the study of geolocation data as of December 24, write that the Russian military is at a distance of about 10 kilometers from the border of Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
