Czech President: We need to prepare for the script when we stay alone

Czech President Peter Pavel believes that the priority for Prague should be a close alliance with the US and NATO, but at the same time the country has a butt ready for a script in which Europe will remain alone.

He told reporters on Monday, March 10, European Truth reports with reference to Novinky.

Pavel stressed that the Czech Republic should pay more attention to its own opportunities in terms of “changing the positions of the United States from a number of important issues”, both in the country and the European Union itself.

“Our advantage will be to continue working in the close Alliance with the United States and maintaining a functioning transatlantic communication,” the Czech President said.

“On the other hand, we must be ready for a script when we remain alone as the EU or part of Europe. In this case, we are ready to work very intensively with like-minded countries to preserve all the necessary skills to ensure our defense,” he added.

The new US administration has repeatedly stated that it plans to reduce military presence in Europe, and European members of NATO should spend more on defense.

According to the Stockholm Institute for Sipri Peace Research, in the last four years, most of NATO’s weapons were imported in the US, which emphasizes their dependence in the period of weakening of transatlantic relations.

The increasingly chaotic geopolitical situation will make Europe take the larger burden of defense, and the cost of it is likely to increase significantly.

Last week the EU Summit supported the idea of ​​the European Commission of Ursula von der Lyen about large -scale defense investments.
