Prehistory:

• Shabunin previously accused President Vladimir Zelensky’s office of pressure due to exposing corruption schemes in the defendant, and warned that the only way to close his mouth was to “do it physically.”
• In March 2024, the head of the Corruption Center Vitaliy Shabunin stated that the State Bureau of Investigation had registered two criminal proceedings against him: for “evasion of military service” and “forgery of documents from NAPC”.
• Shabunin himself stated that he voluntarily mobilized in the Armed Forces in the early days of the war and showed a photo of a military ticket stating that he took the oath of military oath on February 25, 2022.
