China has put the US hard condition: “Want to talk – cancel duties”

China said the US should completely abolish all unilateral tariff measures if they are really interested in restoring trade negotiations.

About it reports the newspaper Financial Times.

On Thursday, Beijing also stated that “no economic or trade negotiations between China and the United States are underway”, despite recent signals of mitigation from Washington.

US Finance Minister Scott Bessent recently said that the Trade War was “not constant” and that “both parties should reduce tensions.”

The representative of the Ministry of Commerce of China Hyadun noted that unilateral tariff measures were initiated by the United States. If the US really wants to solve this problem, they must completely abolish all these duties against China and look for solutions through equal dialogue.

Beijing insists that the US should take the first step towards de -escalation to avoid a strict economic break between countries.

China continues to say that “the door to the negotiations”, but its demand for the United States to be the first to cancel duties indicates a tougher position of Beijing.

Against the backdrop of escalation, this month President Donald Trump has introduced additional duties on Chinese goods in the amount of 145%, to which China responded with its duties at 125%. Bessent on Tuesday called it “embargo”.

After that, Trump began to mitigate some measures – made exceptions for smartphones, semiconductors and electronics – and said the US and China are in daily contact.

On Tuesday, he said that duties would “decrease significantly” and the agreement will be concluded “fairly quickly”.

However, on Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China called similar statements “fake news”.

“There were no consultations or negotiations between China and the United States, not to mention any agreement,” said the representative of the NGO Jiakun Ministry.
