US President Joe Biden made a statement on the Memorial Day of Holodomor victims in Ukraine.

He noted that “marking the anniversary of the Holodomor, the United States also renews its commitment to stand with the Ukrainian people in their difficult time,” according to the official website of the White House.

“Ninety-one years ago Joseph Stalin (former chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR – ed.) and the Soviet regime organized the Holodomor – a forced and deliberate famine that killed millions of Ukrainians. We remember the men, women and children who died during the Holodomor,” Biden emphasized.

He stated that “the USA also honors those who survived the Holodomor and their descendants, who, despite Stalin’s efforts to suppress the national identity of Ukrainians, built a free, independent and democratic Ukraine.”

“Today, when we celebrate the Holodomor Memorial Day, we also renew our commitment to be with the Ukrainian people in their difficult time. For almost three years now, Russia has been waging a brutal war against the Ukrainian people, trying to wipe Ukraine off the face of the earth,” he said.

Biden emphasized that “despite all efforts, Russia has failed, and Kyiv, on the other hand, stands free.”

“It is partly thanks to the United States and more than 50 other countries that have pledged to provide Ukraine with the assistance it needs for self-defense,” he emphasized.

After the start of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, consideration of the issue of recognizing the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people intensified in a number of countries, and parliaments around the world began to recognize the Holodomor as a genocide of the Ukrainian people.

On December 15, 2022, the European Parliament supported the resolution recognizing the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people. MEPs also called on Russia, as the legal successor of the USSR, to apologize for the actions of the Soviet regime against Ukraine.

The artificial famine arranged by the Soviet authorities in 1932–1933 in Ukraine is known as the Holodomor. In November 2006, the Verkhovna Rada recognized it as genocide of the Ukrainian people.

Ukraine, referring to the data of the scientific and demographic examination, claims that the total number of human losses from the Holodomor-genocide of 1932-33 is almost 4 million people, and the losses of Ukrainians in the part of the unborn amount to more than 6 million.
