“I had a long conversation with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi. And I think that as long as we continue to keep Western Europe united with regard to Ukraine, there is a real chance that the Ukrainians can win,” he said.
According to Biden, “the price of participation in the war for Russia is ‘unbelievably high.’
“Over 600,000 dead and wounded. The Koreans they brought also have a high mortality rate,” he stated.
The US president noted that “he made it clear that he provided all the necessary funds (in Ukraine – ed.), which he had the power to provide as president.”
“And I know that there are a significant number of Democrats and Republicans who believe that we should continue to support Ukraine,” he summarized.
Earlier, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, announced that he had a telephone conversation with the President of the United States, Joe Biden. The White House also informed about these negotiations.
According to Zelenskyi, among other things, they discussed the details of the new package of sanctions against Russia.
On January 10, the USA introduced sanctions against more than 30 Russian oil service companies. As reported by the US Treasury Department, radical measures were taken to fulfill the G7 obligations to reduce Russian revenues from energy sources, including the blocking of two large Russian oil producers – Gazpromneft and Surgutneftegaz.
The US State Department added that it is imposing sanctions against almost 80 legal entities and individuals, including those engaged in the active production and export of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia. Others include those who are trying to expand Russian oil production capacity, who support the sanctioned Arctic LNG 2 project, who are involved in the Russian metallurgical and mining sector, as well as high-ranking officials of the Russian state atomic energy corporation Rosatom.
