Another Alexander. Usyk’s promoter told another version of the events with the detention at Krakow airport

Oleksandr Krasiuk, the promoter of WBC, WBA, WBO and IBO world champion Oleksandr Usyk, clarified the detention of his client at the airport of the Polish city of Krakow.

Krasyuk published a post explaining the situation on his Instagram page.

Previously, the authoritative American sports channel ESPN claimed that Usyk was detained together with coach Serhii Lapin. In turn, Krasiuk said that the boxer was actually in the company of his namesake friend.

“Aleksandr together with his friend (also Oleksandr) took off on RyanAir flight FR2777 from Krakow to Thessaloniki, having driven more than 11 hours from Kyiv to Krakow by car and getting a little tired.

Usyk had a priority queue for boarding, and his friend had a general queue. While waiting, Oleksandr’s friend fell asleep on the seats in the waiting area. After the announcement of the start of boarding, Usyk woke up his friend and said that he would wait for him at the exit. After passing the passport and boarding pass check, Usyk was left to wait for his friend. That’s how it all started.”

According to Krasyuk, the condition of Usyk’s friend was assessed by airport employees as deep alcohol intoxication, which was the cause of the incident.

“Employees of the airline somehow strangely established the condition of Usyk’s friend as “deep alcohol intoxication” and did not allow him to board the flight. Usyk began to find out the reasons for the denial with RyanAir employees, but they refused to give an explanation, calling the police. Usyk firmly stated that he would not leave his friend, will not fly without him and is not going to leave the landing zone until representatives of Ukrainian diplomacy appear.

For this, the policemen threatened to detain and put on handcuffs. Then Usyk held out his hands… And the policeman put handcuffs on his wrists. And only on him, because, as can be seen on the video taken by one of the passengers, Usyk’s friend is walking without handcuffs and holding a travel bag in his hand.”

In fact, as the promoter says, the version about alcohol intoxication was false.

“At the local police station, Oleksandr’s friend was offered to undergo an appropriate check, which did not confirm Ryanair’s version. After that, an “unpleasant conversation” took place between the police and airline employees, but it was already too late.

So, thank God, the incident is over. We will wait for an official apology and compensation from the Ryanair airline and from the Polish law enforcement officers,” Krasyuk said.

We will remind, earlier the director of the Ukrainian boxer’s team, Serhiy Lapin, explained that the detention was caused by the customs control service, which neglected its duties.
