Details: Medinsky stated that his delegation was allegedly set to “finding possible solutions and points of contact” and “establishing a long -term peace”, but before that it is necessary to “eliminate the basic root causes of the conflict”.
That preceded:
- President Volodymyr Zelenskyy decided to send a Ukrainian delegation led by the Minister of Defense Rustem Umerov to negotiate with the Russian side with the Russian side on May 15 on a possible peace.
- At the same time, Zelensky criticized the low level of Russia’s representation in these negotiations and called it disrespect for Turkey and the US.
- Earlier it was expected that Putin himself or at least the Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov would come to the negotiations.
