The National Bank indicates that If the coins of 50 kopecks retain a constant demand, in particular from the sphere of trade, then coins of 10 cents stopped playing a significant role in cash payments for goods and services.
”The decision on the gradual removal of coins with a denomination of 10 cents will reduce the costs of the state and participants of cash circulation for the production, processing, transportation, storage and circulation of such coins, ” – said in the NBU.
Ago The National Bank proposes to start the gradual withdrawal of 10 cents from cash circulation from October 1, 2025. Accordingly, the minting of these coins and replenishment of cash circulation (additional issue) will stop.
However, these coins will continue to be left in circulation (before the National Bank is made by a separate decision on their final removal).
Banks of Ukraine will be able to accept coins of 10 cents from citizens and businesses to enroll in accounts, deposits, letters of credit and for payment transactions, the regulator notes.
At the same time, when they enter the banks, such coins will no longer return to circulation, but will be removed and transferred to the National Bank for further transfer and disposal.
In addition, these exchange coins will continue to perform the function of payment in the trading network: in the case of a buyer of 10 cents, the buyer will be able to continue to be calculated in the future, and in the case of such coins from the seller, he will be able to give the buyer the rest of this denomination.
At the same time, if there are no 10 cents coins during cash operations, it is proposed to apply the rules of rounding of total amounts in the check.
