Details: Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that American skepticism about Ukraine in NATO appeared even under the previous US administration. In particular, he said that he “directly asked the question whether Ukraine can be in NATO” to ex-president Biden.

“This was even before the (full-scale) war. President Biden told me: ‘No, you will not be in NATO.’
It also emerged from Zelenskyi’s explanations that he was not presented with arguments against Ukraine’s membership.
“I don’t understand if they tell me that, in principle, we are not against it, but you will not be in NATO. Because it means that someone is against it. And we must say frankly who is against it,” he said. Previously, Ukraine has repeatedly expressed the opinion that the real source of the veto regarding Ukraine’s move to NATO is Russia, whose request is being met by individual allied states. He did not clarify this in Brussels.
However, Volodymyr Zelenskyy reminded that the goal of Ukraine joining NATO is enshrined in the Constitution.
“To be honest, I don’t think we need to change the Constitution of our country (on this issue),” he said.
“Let the Ukrainian people decide what to do with our Constitution, and not someone else decide. Certainly not (it is acceptable to make such changes) because of the calls of the Russian Federation or someone else. This is our Constitution and our course,” Zelenskyy explained, expressing confidence that membership in the Alliance remains the best possible option for Ukraine’s security guarantees.
Volodymyr Zelenskyi also expressed hope that the US policy towards Ukraine in NATO may change over time.
Earlier it was reported that the negotiations with the USA have not been decided whether Ukraine’s security guarantees will be limited in time.
Zelenskyi has repeatedly stated that security guarantees are key in the “peace process”.not the wording about NATO.
