Sergey Shefir, a former aide to President Volodymyr Zelensky, has traveled abroad but assures he will return to Ukraine within the week. His departure comes in the wake of recent legal troubles surrounding former Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko, who faced allegations of corruption.
Shefir was spotted by readers of “Ukrainian Truth” at Warsaw Airport shortly after Halushchenko was implicated in a corruption investigation. Witnesses reported seeing a man resembling Shefir on a flight from Warsaw to Geneva, which raises questions given that Halushchenko’s family resides in Switzerland.
According to sources familiar with the investigation, Halushchenko began establishing a network of offshore accounts for money laundering as early as 2021, prior to the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Political insiders suggest that Shefir may have been involved in overseeing energy-related matters during that time.
In a statement to “Ukrainian Truth,” Shefir clarified his travel intentions, stating, “Yes, I went abroad for personal matters, and this is not connected to the NABU investigation. I will be back in Kyiv this weekend.” His comments aim to dispel any speculation linking his trip to the ongoing inquiries.
The fallout from Halushchenko’s situation has reportedly unsettled other potential targets of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU), as the investigation continues to unfold.
Former aide Sergey Shefir has traveled abroad amid ongoing investigations into corruption linked to former Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko. Shefir insists his trip is unrelated to the inquiries and plans to return to Kyiv shortly.
