Zelenskyi said about “good signals” from Europe regarding readiness to put more pressure on Russia

“It is very important that it be pressure, in particular, on the Russian tanker fleet – on the entire infrastructure of Russian oil exports. It will help all of us in Europe a lot if Russian revenues are cut even more.””, — write: www.radiosvoboda.org

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, announced “good signals” from Europe regarding the readiness to put more pressure on Russia.

“We are now receiving good signals from Europe regarding the readiness of the Europeans to put more pressure on the aggressor. It is very important that this is pressure, in particular, on the Russian tanker fleet – on the entire infrastructure of Russian oil exports. It will help us all in Europe a lot if Russian revenues are cut even more,” he wrote in a telegram.

Zelenskyi said that “colossal new problems” are already being observed in the aggressor with the federal budget, with inflation, with economic indicators.

“These are all good, correct signals for peace to come after all. The more difficult it is for Russia, the closer peace is,” the president said.

According to him, today government officials and the team of the President’s Office worked with the document on reconstruction.

“Clear guarantees of security for Ukraine and all of Europe, absolutely clear obligations and opportunities for rebuilding Ukraine and, of course, real opportunities to end this war with dignity. Now no one in the world can have any doubts about what kind of war this is, who started it, why the war is still going on. Everyone understands that this is a Russian war. And the responsibility is also Russian to end the war. And there must be pressure on Russia,” Zelenskyy added.

On January 26, a group of 14 European countries warned tankers of Russia’s “shadow fleet” in the Baltic and North Seas. Those of them that do not meet certain requirements will be considered as vessels without national ownership.

The vessels can only fly the flag of one state and must have valid safety and insurance documentation, among other requirements, according to a joint statement released by the UK Department for Transport.

Tankers that fail to do so will be considered stateless vessels, the signatories said, citing an article in the global maritime treaty as the legal basis.

According to Bloomberg, the “shadow fleet” has about 1,500 tankers that transport Russian, Iranian and Venezuelan oil around the world. These vessels tend to be older than normal and often use false flags to appear legitimate without following the rules.

On January 23-24, tripartite negotiations between Ukraine, the USA and Russia took place in Abu Dhabi (UAE). On January 24, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi called the discussions constructive and suggested that new meetings will be held next week – according to him, Ukraine is ready to move on. US President’s special envoy Steve Witkoff confirmed that new talks will take place this week. The exact date has not yet been officially announced.

Kremlin spokesman Dmytro Peskov said on January 26 that the issue of territory remains fundamental for Russia when it comes to reaching an agreement to end hostilities in Ukraine. According to the spokesman of the Russian president, the tripartite negotiations in the UAE took place in a “constructive spirit”, but there is still “significant work” ahead.
