“I think it will be useful if President Trump can come. He is talking about advocating a plan to end the war. I told him that we would be happy to see him, please,” Zelensky said.
He added that it would be “desirable” for the US president to fly directly to Ukraine instead of Poland.
“Because if President Trump, the president of the United States of America, flies to Ukraine – and it is desirable that he does not fly to Poland by plane, and then travels by train – but flies to Ukraine, then this will indicate that you and I definitely have the opportunity to count on a ceasefire,” the head of state said.
He emphasized that “we are ready for the visit of President Trump at any time when he is ready for it, when all the possibilities are available and it is safe.”
US President Donald Trump said on December 28 that he has no plans to visit Ukraine, but does not rule it out if it helps to reach a peace agreement.
Zelensky also commented on the statement of Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk that the US could allegedly deploy its troops in Ukraine as part of providing security guarantees after reaching a peace agreement.
