In Germany, the defense group will work on the details of security guarantees for Ukraine. This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy after the reports of the Secretary of the National Security Council and the head of the Ukrainian negotiating group, Rustem Umyerov.

“At the site in Germany, the work of the defense group is being prepared, which is dedicated to the details of security guarantees for Ukraine. On the Ukrainian side, the group is headed by Lieutenant General Hnatov, representatives of our army, intelligence, and security forces take part,” he wrote in a telegram.

According to him, the work of the group on economy, reconstruction and investments has already started and will continue at the site in the United States. Government officials, in particular, Prime Minister Yulia Svyridenko and Deputy Prime Minister Taras Kachka, are engaged in this direction.

“The third line of work is, in fact, permanent contacts of advisers on national security issues and all those who are involved by the decision of the leaders. Today, as almost every day, communication continues between the USA, Ukraine and other European countries, other members of our Coalition of the Willing. On our side, Umerov moderates. In all areas, we have the same goal: to bring the real end of the war closer and to determine such steps that will make peace worthy of Ukraine, and security and recovery – guaranteed,” Zelenskyy added.

Today, a number of media reported that Zelenskyi will visit Berlin on Monday, December 15, for negotiations with European partners.

In recent weeks, the US has again been trying to reach a peace agreement between Moscow and Kyiv. As a result of the week-long negotiations, a document was prepared that is more acceptable to Kyiv, but there are several controversial issues, in particular regarding the territory and security guarantees.

Last week, American representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met in Moscow with Russian leader Vladimir Putin regarding the parameters of a possible peace agreement in the Russian-Ukrainian war. Later, Putin confirmed that during a meeting with Witkoff and Kushner on December 2, Russian representatives did not agree with part of the points of the American plan to end Russia’s war against Ukraine.

After this meeting, the Ukrainian delegation in the US continued negotiations with representatives of the Trump administration, which lasted several days.

In an interview with Politico published on December 9, Trump, commenting on the peace talks, said that Russia is now “without a doubt” in a stronger negotiating position than Ukraine. Trump noted that he advises Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to agree to the American peace initiative, which involves significant concessions on the part of Ukraine.

Ukrainian and European officials remain highly skeptical that Russia is truly seeking peace, even though Trump has said he believes Putin is serious.

The American Institute for the Study of War has previously repeatedly stated that the Kremlin is not disposed to honest peace negotiations and has no intention of making concessions in pursuit of Ukraine’s surrender.
