Ukraine and Russia began the exchange of prisoners of war on June 9. According to the coordination headquarters on the management of prisoners of war, the first group of dismissed servicemen under 25 years of age returned to Ukraine. Among the released today are representatives of the Navy, Land Forces, TRO, Air Forces, Air Force forces, DPSU, National Guard and the State Special Transport Service.
Among the released from Russian captivity are Mariupol’s defenders who have spent more than three years in captivity.
The number of operations released for reasons was not reported at the headquarters.
The head of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Kirill Budanov reported on June 8 that the start of the exchange of bodies of dead military between Ukraine and Russia was scheduled for the next week, and the Russian side knows about this agreement.
On June 2, the delegations of Ukraine and the Russian Federation agreed in Istanbul on new exchanges of prisoners. According to the Minister of Defense of Rustem Umerov, there is an agreement to focus on specific categories, not the numbers: about the exchange of “all of all” seriously wounded and severely ill prisoners of war, the second category is young soldiers who are 18 to 25 years old. There was also an agreement on the return of 6,000 bodies of dead soldiers.
