Zelensky stated that Ukraine seeks more weapons because Russia is “not interested” in peace

Ukraine seeks more weapons from the West against the backdrop of fears that even after two recent summits in the United States, Russia is “not interested” in peace, said the adviser to the Presidential Office Mikhail Podolyak in an interview with TV channel “Infants” (Radio Liberty Created).

According to him, Kiev conducts “active consultations” with US and European officials “to increase deliveries of various means for counter -war operations”.

“We understand how much Russia is spending now and what they will do next – what resources they use on the front or deep in the Ukrainian territory,” Podolyak added, a key figure in the Vladimir Zelensky administration since 2020.

“Consultations and negotiations continue to increase the receipt of certain types of weapons to Ukraine … A distant radius missile, drones of a distant radius of action – this is one of the priority areas today, which really allows us to effectively influence the course of this war,” he said.

At a briefing in Kiev, after negotiations with Prime Minister Norway Jonas Gar Star, on August 25, Zelensky said Ukraine hopes to receive at least one billion dollars a month from the country supporting the country to buy US weapons.

Russia continued the full -scale invasion of Ukraine, which it began in February 2022, after the meeting of US President Donald Trump with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Alaska on August 15 and with Zelensky and European leaders in the White House three days later.

Trump, who has been trying to mediate from the moment of his admission in January, used these meetings – and especially the summit with Putin, the first with the US President for over four years – to insist on a personal meeting between Putin and Zelensky, who have not met personally since 2019.

Zelensky agreed to meet with Putin and unsuccessfully sought it during the lower -level peace talks in Istanbul in May. Speaking on August 24 at the celebration of the 34th anniversary of Ukraine’s proclamation of Independence, Zelensky stated that meeting with Putin would be “the most effective way of moving forward.” At a briefing on August 25, he said that he was planning to discuss preparations for a possible meeting with Putin with a special Trump envoy on Ukraine Kellogg.

But Russia is still evading, signaling that it is not ready for the meeting of Putin and Zelensky now and the meeting does not take place in the near future.

“Putin is ready to meet Zelensky when the agenda is ready for the summit. And this agenda is not ready at all, ”said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in an interview with NBC News, which was broadcast on August 22.

The meeting between the two presidents “certainly” would be possible, “if Russia had a desire to start a realistic conversation about the termination of the war or at least about possible scenarios of war stopping,” – said Podolyak TV channel “The Water Time”. – “But as far as I understand, and it is quite obvious, Russia is not interested in the cessation of hostilities, especially not in the termination of shelling of civilian infrastructure and civilian population.”
