President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated that it considers it possible to quickly achieve ceasefire and end of the war.
He reported this during an online briefing on Wednesday, March 19.
“As for the rapid ceasefire, I think so that it is possible to do quickly […] If there is a ceasefire for a month, for two months, it is a window of opportunity when you can make a plan and try to press everyone on anyone who breaks it, but you can end the war. Maybe a stage of war, as we say a “hot stage” – not everything is agreed – but we can end the war, ”the President said.
At the same time, the President believes that the ceasefire for the years is not the end of the war, but the freezing of the conflict.
Zelensky also stressed that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin probably does not want cease fire for several reasons. First, he is not in a weak position on the battlefield. Secondly, Ukrainian troops still control part of the Kursk region. In addition, Putin accumulates troops for further attacks on Ukraine, trying to create conditions for stronger pressure and better negotiation conditions.
Trump’s conversation with Putin: What is known
US President Donald Trump on Tuesday, March 18, negotiated with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. The negotiations lasted about two and a half hours and became a record for the duration of a telephone conversation between US and Russian leaders.
Judging by the statements made by the White House and the Kremlin following the telephone conversation:
- Putin refused to stop the fire for 30 days and demanded that military assistance and exchange of intelligence with Ukraine stop.
- At the same time, the dictator allegedly agreed to stop the blows on “energy infrastructure”, while the United States submits this idea as a moratorium on the attack on “energy and infrastructure”.
- The US and Russia will start negotiations on ceasefire in the Black Sea.
- The bilateral negotiations of the United States and Russia will continue for the peace agreement, and the parties will create expert groups.
- Trump and Putin also discussed the Middle East and the need to stop the spread of strategic weapons and agreed that “Iran should never be able to destroy Israel.”
