President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky reported a “meaningful and very good” conversation with Canada Prime Minister Mark Karney.

“They discussed our needs, primarily the strengthening of air defense systems and missiles, as well as an increase in funding for the joint production of drones, including interceptors. They also talked about sanctions against Russia, ”he wrote in the telegram.

According to Zelensky, the results of the last meeting in Istanbul were also discussed from Karney, at which the Ukrainian delegation once again stressed that there should be a ceasefire.

“I thank Canada for the support of my bill, which guarantees the independence and efficiency of anti-corruption bodies in Ukraine and prevents any influence and intervention by Russia in the work of our anti-corruption infrastructure. We have the same position with Mark: it is now important that on July 31, the Verkhovna Rada supported this bill as a whole, ”the President added.

The Canadian side has not reported this conversation.

Earlier, Zelensky had a conversation with the head of the Denmark government, who is now chasing the European Union, Matte Frederixen. This conversation also mentioned a bill that should ensure the independence of anti -corruption bodies and registered in the Verkhovna Rada:

“I am grateful to Denmark for his support. We agreed that Parliament should vote for this bill immediately, this week. ”

On July 22, the Verkhovna Rada supported the Law No. 12414, which, as it was reported, limits the independence of NABU and SAP. After that, NABU Chairman Semen Krivonos urged the President of Ukraine to veto the bill, but Zelensky signed him the same day.

These legislative changes have provoked protests in Ukraine, as well as concern from Western partners.

Subsequently, President Zelensky introduced a new bill to the Council “Strengthening the powers of the National Anti -Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and the Specialized Anti -Corruption Prosecutor’s Office.”

The National Anti -Corruption Bureau positively evaluated the Bill No. 13533, submitted by the President. According to the assessment of anti -corruption bodies, it restores all the procedural powers and guarantees of independence of NABU and the Specialized Anti -Corruption Prosecutor’s Office.
