The President of Ukraine stated that Russia has proposed Belarus as a place for peace talks. However, according to him, Ukraine cannot agree to this because of Belarus’s involvement in the Russian invasion in 2022. Zelensky offered more neutral sites for negotiations, including Turkey, Switzerland and the Vatican.
On May 11, Putin proposed to hold direct negotiations in Istanbul on May 15 without any preliminary conditions in response to a proposal of the United States, Ukraine and its European allies about the unconditional 30-day ceasefire, which the Russian leader does not accept.
Zelensky stated that he was ready to talk to him personally. US President Donald Trump also stated that he could come to negotiate Ukraine and the Russian Federation, depending on their progress.
