Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed his discontent with U.S. President Donald Trump’s public calls for Ukraine to make concessions in the ongoing conflict with Russia. Zelensky argues that it is unjust to pressure Ukraine while overlooking Russia’s role in the war.
White House spokesperson Caroline Levitt addressed the situation during a recent briefing, stating that Trump perceives the circumstances as unfair not only to Ukrainians and Russians but also to American citizens. She emphasized that Trump and his team have dedicated significant time and resources to addressing the conflict, which is occurring far from U.S. soil.
Levitt described Trump as a “president of peace,” noting that substantial progress had been made during recent trilateral negotiations involving the U.S., Russia, and Ukraine. She mentioned that both sides agreed to provide updated information to their leaders and continue working toward a peace agreement.
Looking ahead, Levitt confirmed that another round of negotiations is planned. She pointed out that the situation is not only unfair to those directly involved in the conflict but also to American taxpayers who have funded military efforts before Trump intervened to halt them. Levitt reminded the audience that the U.S. continues to supply NATO with weapons that are sent to Ukraine to support its defense.
Previously, in an interview with Axios, Zelensky had labeled Trump’s stance as “unfair,” emphasizing that while it may be easier for Trump to exert pressure on Ukraine, a lasting peace cannot be achieved by granting victory to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In recent days, Trump has reiterated that the responsibility for making concessions lies with Zelensky. In response, Zelensky expressed hope that this approach is merely a tactic rather than a firm stance. He also acknowledged Trump’s peace efforts, clarifying that his discussions with Jared Kushner and other officials do not involve the same public pressure that Trump has applied.
Ukrainian President Zelensky has criticized President Trump's calls for Ukraine to make concessions in peace negotiations with Russia, asserting that such pressure is unjust. White House spokesperson Caroline Levitt defended Trump's position, highlighting ongoing diplomatic efforts and the broader implications for American taxpayers.
