What preceded:
- Mass protests have been ongoing in Iran since the end of December 2025, which began due to the economic crisis and turned into an anti-government uprising. According to human rights defenders, the number of dead has already exceeded 500 peoplemore than 10 thousand people were arrested.

- January 11 Trump Iran publicly warnedthat the United States would “step in” and help the protesters win their freedom if the ayatollah’s regime resorted to deadly violence against the demonstrators.
- The heir to the Iranian throne, Reza Pahlavi, is in exile urged population to the “new stage of the national uprising”, with the aim of overthrowing the regime of the Islamic Republic.
