Let’s take the Rzeszow airport in Poland, which receives cargo for Ukraine, there are Patriot systems. Because everyone understands that Russia is a risk.
And today, taking an air defense system from one or another city under fire and moving it to the airport would be dishonest, people are more important than planes.
But there will come a time… I think the war will end and President Trump may be the first leader to fly in. I think it would be symbolic.”

Prehistory:
- Civil aviation flights over Ukraine were completely closed on February 24, 2022.
- In April 2023, the European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation (Eurocontrol) in its forecast until 2029 predicts that restrictions on flights in the airspace of Ukraine, Russia, Belarus and Moldova will remain.
- In October of the same year, Boryspil International Airport announced that it was ready to start receiving planes a month after the end of the war.
- In November 2023, the head of the president’s office, Andriy Yermak, said that one of the civilian airports would probably be opened in Ukraine even before the end of the war.
- In October 2024, the Ministry of Community Development together with the State Aviation Service, Ukraerorukh, the Air Force Command and the heads of international airports presented a road map for the opening of Ukrainian airspace under martial law.
