Zelensky at the UN voiced his version of why Russia does not support the Peace Formula

During his speech at the UN General Assembly, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi voiced his version of why Russia does not support the Peace Formula.

“And I am glad that the first Peace Summit was so reminiscent of the UN General Assembly – everyone was equal. But all the countries that participated in the Peace Summit – big and small – have no veto power, no blocking power. These are those countries that have been independent for ages and those that have only recently gained independence. Those who have gone through wars themselves, and those who are used to peace. All were equal. This is what Russia hates the most and cannot control, so Russia says that the Peace Formula does not suit it,” he said during his speech at the UN General Assembly.

Zelenskyi emphasized that the UN Charter should be supported and Ukraine’s right to territorial integrity and sovereignty should be guaranteed.

“It is necessary to withdraw the Russian occupation forces, which will lead to the cessation of hostilities in Ukraine…And we must not allow the second or third phase of this Russian invasion. And it is necessary to make it clear that the war is over. This is the Peace Formula. What part of this would be objectionable to those who support the UN Charter?” – said the President of Ukraine.

According to him, if anyone in the world is looking for alternatives to any of these points, or trying to ignore any of them, it probably means that they themselves want to do some of what Putin is doing.

At the same time, Volodymyr Zelensky notes that it is impossible to truly resolve issues of war and peace at the UN, as Russia uses the right of veto.

On September 24, the President of Ukraine said in a speech to the UN Security Council that Russia can only be “forced” into peace, and condemned Iran and North Korea as “accomplices” who helped Moscow by providing weapons it used to attack Ukraine.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Nobel laureate, human rights defender Oleksandra Matviychuk announced the day before that an open letter was sent to the UN Secretary General about the suspension of Russia’s membership in the UN General Assembly.

“In addition to Ukrainian organizations, this letter was signed by colleagues from Latin America. Among them are more than 20 former ministers of foreign affairs and many well-known human rights defenders, most of whom held important positions within the framework of the Inter-American Human Rights Protection System or in the UN itself,” the head of the Ukrainian Center for Civil Liberties wrote on Facebook.

The other day, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that Moscow did not and will not participate in the Peace Summit, as “this process has nothing to do with the settlement.”
