“You get peace when they are strong, not when you threatening with your finger.” Hegset urged NATO countries to join Purl initiative

Part of the obligations of the Allies to increase their spending on their own defense is the Purl initiative, which provides for the purchase of US weapons at the expense of other allies of the Alliance, and the United States is expecting new contributions to approach peace in Ukraine. On October 15, the US Defense Minister (renamed President Donald Trump to the Minister of War) said this at the NATO headquarters, reports Radio Liberty from Brussels Radio Svoboda.

“If we have learned something for President Trump, it is an active use of peace because of force. You get peace when you are strong and not when you use strong words or threatening with your finger. You get it when you have strong and real opportunities that opponents respect. And I think that is what NATO does. I believe – this is the initiative of Purl, ”Hegset said.

Pentagon’s head added that new contributions were expected today, which will buy American weapons for Ukraine, and expressed his hope that the war would be able to complete the same as it was possible to do with the confrontation in the Gaza Sector between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas.

“Much happened, given that the President was able to do in Gas and the Middle East. I think the world sees that we have a President of Peace who seeks and supports those who stand with the United States and stand for peace. This is what we saw there, and I hope we can see in Ukraine. Therefore, this is what our efforts are directed, ”Hegset stressed.

On October 15, a meeting of the Defense Ministers of the Union States is held at the NATO headquarters. The Ukraine-NATO Council and the meeting of the Contact Group on Defense of Ukraine, more widely known as Ramstein format, are also planned.

On July 14, the United States and NATO have concluded Puritized Ukraine Requirements List – a list of priority requirements for Ukraine), which provides for the sending of US weapons to Ukraine at the expense of European countries, coordinates the NATO process.

According to the Secretary -General of Alliance Mark Rutte, in the first months after the launch of Purl’s project, he was able to raise more than two billion euros. First of all, weapons and ammunition, which are not produced by European weapons, are purchased for these funds. Among them are air defense systems.

13 NATO countries have already joined the Purl initiative. At the same time, despite the billions collected, the pace of funding has slowed down, and some of the major economies – the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Spain, Poland – still outside the initiative, according to Radio Liberty.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy publicly urges them to join them, while NATO has a discussion about a fair distribution of the burden of military and financial assistance to Ukraine.
