“Last Sunday in Abu Dhabi, Jared (Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, – editor), myself and Dan Driscoll (US Secretary of the Army – editor) met with five Russian generals together. And we believe that we have made significant progress,” he said at the White House.
Witkoff noted that talks will continue “in about a week” but that “a lot of good things” are happening between the two sides.

“(There was) discussion on the territories agreement, we have the protocol to the security agreement – it’s largely completed, the prosperity agreement – largely completed,” he added.
At this meeting in the White House, US President Donald Trump said that he asked Russian leader Vladimir Putin not to attack Ukrainian cities for a week. According to him, “he agreed.”
On January 23 and 24, for the first time since the beginning of the full-scale war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, tripartite negotiations between the delegations of the USA, Russia, and Ukraine regarding the end of the war were held in Abu Dhabi. The Russian delegation was headed by the head of military intelligence of the GRU, and high-ranking politicians participated on the Ukrainian side, including the head of the President’s Office and the secretary of the National Security and Defense Council.
The next round of negotiations in Abu Dhabi is scheduled for February 1. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that the US President’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner will not participate in the next round of negotiations between Ukraine and the Russian Federation.
Rubio confirmed that the territorial issue remains unresolved. Russia demands the withdrawal of the Armed Forces from the part of the Donetsk region that its troops did not capture.
On January 25, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi, while visiting Vilnius, stated that Kyiv’s position regarding the territories has not changed, and that all parties should be ready for compromises. He also noted that bilateral security guarantees with the USA are “100%” ready, and Kyiv is waiting for their signing.
Earlier in December, Zelenskyi said that the issue of possible territorial solutions should be decided by the people of Ukraine “in the format of elections or in the format of a referendum.”
