The project was implemented by the Myroniv Museum of Local Lore with the financial support of the “MHP-Hromadi” Charitable Foundation. As part of the project, museum staff showed reproduced and digitized traditional clothing of the region from the end of the 19th – the first half of the 20th century.
“I am very pleased and proud that the Myroniv Regional History Museum took up this initiative, and we were all able to see what the youth of the Myroniv region looked like a hundred years ago,” commented Anna Mosoruk, representative of the youth council of the Myroniv city community.
The idea of the project belongs to the director of the museum Inna Savsyuk.
“While working on another project related to the weaving craft, we raised the issue of traditional clothing. And we came to the conclusion that we should research the clothing of our area,” she comments.
Carrying out such research is not an easy task. We need finance and the help of professionals. That is why the Myroniv Museum of Local Lore has enlisted the support of the “MHP-Hromadi” charity fund.
“The “MHP-Hromadi” charity fund has been helping the Myronivsk local history museum for more than a year. When we heard about the idea of collecting images, everyday life, and things that were common in the Myronivsk community in those distant times, we immediately decided that we should help the museum to do this an ambitious task,” commented Oleksandr Pakholiuk, director of the “MHP-Hromadi” Charitable Foundation.
The research lasted almost a year and consisted of three stages: collection of information and samples of national clothing in the territory of the community, digitization of items and reproduction of clothing. As a result, there was:
- 39 samples of folk clothing and 51 items of interior items were collected,
- 118 exhibits were digitized and are available on the museum-digital international portal
- 4 women’s and 2 men’s sets of traditional costumes were recreated with the involvement of the Ukrainian workshop “VidymoNevidymo”.
These recreated costumes will become part of historical reconstructions, exhibitions and other cultural and educational events.
