“Why penguins steal pebbles: Ukrainian polar explorers showed a cute and informative video On Galindez Island, penguins steal pebbles from other people’s nests because of their scarcity. Polar scientists filmed one penguin moving building material from someone else’s nest until its owner appeared.”, — write on: unn.ua
“Stealing pebbles is common among sub-Antarctic penguins living on our Galindez Island. Because of this, they often have quarrels and even fights,” – it is stated on the page of the National Antarctic Science Center.
Polar scientists recalled that pebbles are the main building material for the nests of the mentioned penguins. Every year it is more and more difficult to extract it, because the number of penguins on Galindez is increasing, but the number of stones is not.
Instead of looking for “building material” elsewhere, nimble birds pick it up from their neighbors. Anna Soiniy, a participant of the 29th UAE, managed to capture just such a moment on video.
One penguin successfully transferred pebbles from another’s nest to his own, until his master came. And even here the thief did not decide not to stop until he received a threatening warning.
Poyalrniki also called to pay attention to the behavior of other penguins who witnessed the “crime”. They just calmly watched everything, because it did not concern their nests.
