Elon Musk’s social network continues its legal battle against large companies that refused to buy advertising on X. However, now the list of defendants in the case does not include the multinational company Unilever.

X withdraws its claims against Unilever (is the owner of Dove, Rexona. Domestos, Chista Linija and many other brands) from its lawsuit against a group of advertisers and brands that decided to stop buying ads on the platform.

“X is delighted to have reached an agreement with Unilever and our partnership with them on the platform will continue. Today’s news is the first part of an ecosystem-wide solution, and we look forward to further industry-wide solutions,” the X team said in a statement.

It is not clear from X’s message under what terms and conditions the agreement was reached with the company, or whether this announcement means that Unilever will again order advertising on the platform. Other companies that X mentioned in the lawsuit ((including Mars and CVS) still haven’t gotten rid of the company’s claims.

The billionaire founder of SpaceX and Tesla has a long history of conflict with advertisers and organizations monitoring his Platform X (formerly Twitter).

In particular, last year Media Matters found that ads for Apple, IBM and other well-known brands appeared on X alongside posts promoting the Nazi party. That, along with Musk’s claims that he was accused of anti-Semitism, led to more than 200 major companies, including Airbnb, Coca-Cola and Microsoft, refusing to advertise on X. In November, X Corp filed a lawsuit against Media Matters. The hearing of the case is scheduled for April 2025.

In August 2024, X Corp accused a number of advertisers of illegally boycotting its platform and announced that it was going to war with them. In a lawsuit filed in Texas, X alleged that the World Federation of Advertisers (WFA) Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM), conspired with leading brands to limit the platform’s advertising revenue. The lawsuit was devastating for GARM, a small organization with only two employees on staff. The X Corp case was to be heard by Judge Reed O’Connor, who is a Tesla shareholder, but recused himself.
