“Regarding the ammunition initiative, I regret to say that we have not yet reached the goal,” Kallas stated.
However, she said that “one member state told me today that they will make another decision in the coming weeks, which will also contribute to the ammunition initiative.”
“Today we also listened to the Minister of Defense (Ukraine) Shmyhal about the needs they have, as well as his call to member states to do more,” said the EU’s chief diplomat.
She specified that, first of all, now Ukrainians “need drones and other capabilities”, but “they still need ammunition”.
“So the work in this direction is still ongoing,” Kaya Kallas assured.
We will remind:
- As “Europeyska Pravda” reported, Kallas also expressed her fear that during the negotiations on establishing peace in Ukraine with the participation of the USA and Russia, the main pressure will be directed at Ukraine, with the aim of forcing it to make concessions.
- We will remind that in September 2025, the head of EU diplomacy Kaya Callas said that the EU countries intend to reserve 2 million artillery shells for Ukraine by October. Then Kallas reported that the states participating in the initiative had already found 80% of the ammunition of the promised amount.
- In April 2025, Callas reported that she had already collected a third of the 2 million ammunition promised to Ukraine.
- The President of the Czech Republic Petr Pavel, in his turn, said that the Czechs have already started preparing supplies of ammunition to Ukraine for 2026.
