According to the UN, a new wave of violence among groups and in clashes with the police indicates a further worsening of the situation in the country.
UN Human Rights Commissioner Volker Türk said the violence must stop immediately to prevent Haiti from plunging further into chaos. He emphasized that the actions of armed groups cannot go unpunished, and the country cannot afford even more instability.
Western humanitarian organizations have also been affected by the escalation of violence. In particular, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) announced the suspension of its activities in Port-au-Prince after its workers were attacked. Two policemen who were under the protection of the organization were killed.
