“At the invitation of the American side, the special representative of the President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, Vice President Han Zheng will take part in the inauguration ceremony of President Donald Trump on January 20 in Washington,” the message reads.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that China adheres to the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and mutually beneficial cooperation in relations with the United States.
“We are ready to work with the new US administration to improve dialogue and exchanges, properly resolve differences, expand mutually beneficial cooperation, and build stable and stable relations between our countries,” the ministry said.

The media later reported that Xi would not attend Trump’s inauguration, but would send a high-ranking representative to Washington.
Possible candidates included Vice President Han Zheng, who sometimes fills in for Xi at ceremonies, or Foreign Minister and top foreign policy adviser to the Chinese leader, Wang Yi.
