Direct Kelly Language: “If Russia makes the wrong decision to continue this catastrophic war, the United States will have to consider the possibility of refusing our negotiation efforts to end this conflict. In order to understand it, we will not give up our principles or our friends. Rather, we recognize Russia’s refusal to cooperate with us.”
Details: Kelly stressed that the United States would support the peace process, but only with honest dialogue.
“We will insist that the discussion of peaceful issues by both parties was conducted in good faith,” Kelly said.
Kelly also recalled US President Donald Trump’s position, according to which the United States wants to cooperate with Russia, including a peaceful initiative.
“The agreement offered now is the best possible result for Russia. President Putin has to conclude an agreement,” the US representative said.
In conclusion, Kelly called “both Russia and Ukraine to make a complex, historical decision to strive for peace.”
“If one party is unable to do so or does not want to do so, it will be responsible for the consequences,” the US representative added.
Prehistory:
- Earlier, US Presidential Special Messenger Steve Witcoff said Donald Trump had put forward an ultimatum of Ukraine and Russia on the need to make progress in negotiations, otherwise the United States would leave the process of peaceful settlement on the termination of the war.
- US Vice president, Jay Di, called “too big” demands that Russia put forward during the negotiations to resolve the war in Ukraine. At the same time, he noted that the United States would leave the negotiations if they realize that “Russians do not participate in negotiations and do not behave sincerely.”
