Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet with US President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff in Moscow on Thursday, Russian news agency TASS reported, citing the Kremlin.

Witkoff previously said he would meet with Putin on Thursday.

“We need to meet with him (Putin) on Thursday,” Witkoff said in an interview with CNBC, according to a number of media outlets. He said that it was the Russian side that asked for this meeting.

Bloomberg reported last week that Steve Witkoff and President Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner are planning a visit to Moscow and a meeting with Putin this month.

On January 17, the Ukrainian delegation met with US representatives in Miami, where they discussed, as reported, economic assistance of up to 800 billion dollars.

This plan, which was supposed to be an economic component of a broader package of peace agreements negotiated by the US, Ukraine and Europe, provides for long-term support for Kyiv’s recovery and reconstruction after a possible ceasefire. Its signing was planned to be announced at the World Economic Forum in Davos. But, according to sources in the Financial Times, Europe’s disagreement with US President Donald Trump’s initiatives to acquire Greenland and create a Peace Council led to the postponement of the signing of the $800 billion package of economic aid to Ukraine (known as the “prosperity plan”).
