The Philippine Government submitted an official diplomatic protest on Friday. According to the foreign Ministry spokeswoman Angelic Escalon, it is “a decisive and unambiguous expression of the Philippines against China’s actions.”
Beijing made a decision through the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, which approved the proposal of the Ministry of Natural Resources to create a national reserve on RIFA Skarboro (China calls it the island of Huanyan). Philippines also claim this object.
China continues to insist on its claims on the South Chinese resources, despite the decision of the 2016 International Tribunal, which found them illegal. Rubio stressed that the United States urge China to respect this decision and stop interfering with the Filipino fishermen in the Rifu area of Parboro.
