“We are grateful to Romania for close cooperation for many years to strengthen security. Romania can be re -considered to include in the program (visa -free entry) in the future,” said US National Security Minister Trisia Mclaflin.
In the Romanian government, commenting on the US decision, they declared its intention to “continue cooperation to review our country’s candidacy as soon as possible.”
They asked the US administration to clarify the grounds for canceling Romania’s participation in the visa -free program, “that the Romanian authorities can prepare detailed answers on each question.”
“Romanian citizens deserve the same attitude as citizens of other union states who have visa -free entry into the US, and therefore the Romanian government will continue the diplomatic dialogue at the highest level so that the Romanian rights are observed,” they summed up in Bucharest.
Romania was to join the US visa -free travel program at the end of March – Baiden’s administration was announced in January.
It happened against the backdrop of election upheavals in the country and the cancellation of the first round of the presidential election, where the anti -Western presidential candidate Cellene Georgescu won.
The decision to cancel the elections was sharply criticized by the high -ranking officials of the new US Presidential Administration Donald Trump, including Vice President Jay Vens and Presidential Advisor Ilon Musk.
