“It is obvious that negotiations with Russia and Ukraine are ongoing, and I think the President has decided not to unite these two questions,” Hasset said.
“Russia is in the midst of peace talks, which actually affects thousands and thousands of lives of people, and that is where President Trump is now concentrated,” Hasset said.
“This does not mean that Russia will be treated completely differently than any other country, but Russia is one of the few countries that is not subject to new tariffs. They are in the middle of negotiations,” the director of the National Economic Council explained.
Hasset also added that the introduction of new duties during peace talks would be inappropriate.
“Russia is in the midst of peace talks, which actually affects thousands and thousands of lives of people, and that is where President Trump is now concentrated,” he emphasized.
Prehistory:
- On April 2, US President Donald Trump officially announced the beginning of the Trade War with all the countries of the world, announcing duties from 10% to 50% for imports to the US depending on the country of origin.
- White House spokeswoman Levitt said Russia has remained out of mind because US sanctions are already “prevents any significant trade.” However, the United States is still trading with Russia more than with some countries that have been on the Trump Customer List.
