US Aims for Peace Agreement in Ukraine by Independence Day, Sources Indicate

According to reports from Bloomberg, the United States is reportedly seeking to conclude the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine by July 4, coinciding with American Independence Day. This information comes from NATO allies, although specific sources were not disclosed.

Bloomberg noted that the US administration is eager to achieve a peace agreement before the national celebrations, but skepticism remains among NATO allies regarding this timeline. European officials have expressed doubts, indicating that there are no indications that Russian President Vladimir Putin is willing to agree to terms that do not meet his fundamental demands.

Some American officials, speaking privately, have also acknowledged a lack of evidence suggesting that Putin is prepared to compromise on his maximalist positions. The ongoing diplomatic efforts by the US have faced significant challenges, particularly concerning Russia’s demands related to the Donbas region and control over the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, the largest in Europe.

Former President Donald Trump, who returned to office in January 2025, has pledged to swiftly end the full-scale war initiated by Russia. However, more than a year of diplomatic initiatives has not yielded substantial progress.

In earlier statements, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky mentioned that the United States had proposed concluding the war by early summer, as they would shift focus to the upcoming Congressional elections later in the year. Additionally, Reuters reported that American and Ukrainian negotiators had discussed the possibility of signing a peace agreement in March, with Ukrainian elections planned for May.

The United States is reportedly aiming to finalize a peace agreement in Ukraine by July 4, but skepticism from NATO allies persists regarding Russia's willingness to negotiate. Diplomatic efforts continue to face obstacles, particularly around key territorial and strategic issues.
