As the organization’s press service reports, a mission of experts was sent to the scene on Saturday.
“On the night of November 15, a large-scale Russian attack took place on the historic center of Odesa, which has been under the protection of the UNESCO Convention on the Protection of World Heritage since January 2023. According to preliminary data, about 20 buildings were damaged, including historical and religious buildings, as well as some educational institutions,” the statement said.
UNESCO condemns these attacks, which are contrary to international law, and reiterates its call for an end to any attacks on protected cultural property.
Earlier, the local authorities reported that the Russian shelling of Odessa on the night of November 15 damaged the building of the family outpatient clinic, which is an architectural monument and is located within the UNESCO protection zone.
As a result of this Russian attack on Odesa, a person died. Later, the State Emergency Service clarified that the number of victims increased to 10.

According to the latest data from the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine, about 1,200 objects of cultural heritage were damaged as a result of Russian aggression.
The Russian military regularly attacks Ukrainian regions with various types of weapons – attack UAVs, rockets, anti-aircraft missiles, and anti-aircraft missiles.
The leadership of Russia denies that the Russian army during a full-scale war inflicts targeted strikes on the civilian infrastructure of the cities and villages of Ukraine, killing the civilian population and destroying hospitals, schools, kindergartens, energy and water supply facilities.
The Ukrainian authorities and international organizations qualify these strikes as war crimes by Russia.
