“An important meeting of the coalition are those who want. I appreciate the coordination with President Trump on the eve of Friday meeting on Alaska, and I congratulate the fact that Vice president Jay Di Vance was also present at the meeting of the coalitions for the first time. I am glad that as part of the coalition, we have a clear consensus on further action. I can also announce that as of today, because of the Czech ammunition initiative, we have already set Ukraine one million rounds of large caliber this year, ”Fiala wrote on the social network X.
In February 2024, the Czech Republic united at least 16 European donor countries and launched an independent EU “Czech Initiative for the Supply of Ammunition to Ukraine”. The coalition aimed to buy 800,000 shells mostly large calibers. A year after this promise, Czech officials stated that they managed to double this number.
Despite the declared success of the Czech Initiative, it also undergoes sharp criticism by the Czech opposition and individual Ukrainian non -governmental organizations. The Czech authorities are thrown in connection with local private procurement companies, and the latter-allegedly overwhelming profits, poor quality of shells and delays in deliveries.
In February 2025, the former Czech Prime Minister, and now opposition politician Andrei Babish called ammunition “old, moldy, acquired opaque and at high prices”, but did not provide evidence.
