“Ukrzaliznytsia” announced that it has resumed train traffic between Odesa and Chisinau for the first time since 2022.

“Demand was extremely high: 60% of tickets were sold only in the first three hours after the sale opened. As of today, the number of flights is: 61% – from Odesa; 93% are from Kyiv,” said the message published on the evening of December 20.

“Ukrzaliznytsia” clarified that the sale of tickets from Odesa is open on a daily basis.

The price of a reserved seat ticket is about 3,000 hryvnias, a compartment ticket is about 4,000 hryvnias, the travel time is 18 hours and 30 minutes.

The announcement came after Russia attacked the Dniester bridge near Mayakiv (on the M-15 Odesa-Reni highway) on the evening of December 18, which is a key route between Odesa and Moldova. As a result, a woman died and her three children were injured.

The Minister of Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine Oleksiy Kuleba reported on December 20 that there were more than 20 Russian attacks on the bridge over the Dniester in the village of Mayaki, which also passes through the territory of Moldova in the Palanka region.

The Ukrainian authorities temporarily closed the bridge – the only major land artery connecting Odessa with the part of Odesa region located on the right bank of the Dniester (southern Bessarabia), as well as the shortest route to Chisinau.

According to Kuleba, a pontoon bridge was deployed on the spot, on which reverse traffic is carried out. The government also noted that they are preparing an alternative route, which they plan to deploy within a week.

The reconstruction agency said that the bridge in Mayaky on the M-15 highway in Odesa region was subjected to repeated Russian strikes, which intensified in recent days.

“It is currently impossible to say exactly about the timing of the restoration of traffic. After all, due to the security situation, restoration work is not being carried out there. The examination and assessment of the condition of the structures is ongoing,” the agency reported on December 19.

In comments to Suspilnya, local residents said that after the Russian strikes on the bridge, Mayakiv Street was emptied, and traffic on the main road almost stopped. Attacks, according to them, take place both during the day and at night. Before entering the Lighthouses, queues of cars form on the highway: people wait for hours for the opportunity to cross the bridge.
