After 15:00 on December 9, the Ukrenergo company announced the strengthening of restrictions, explaining it as the consequences of previous massive missile and drone attacks carried out by the Russian military.
Earlier it became known about emergency disconnections of consumers in Kharkiv, Sumy and Poltava regions. Before that, the local authorities reported the blackout of more than five thousand subscribers in the Zaporizhia region due to Russian attacks on the energy infrastructure in the neighboring Dnipropetrovsk region
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion in February 2022, Russia has been striking Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Since the beginning of the fall of 2025, the Russian military has increased its shelling of the Ukrainian energy and gas infrastructure, which supplies people with gas during the heating season.
In Ukraine, due to damage to energy facilities as a result of Russian shelling, hourly blackout schedules and capacity limitation schedules are used for industrial consumers and businesses.
